Are carbon fiber wallets good?
The world is changing quickly. In its course, the new technologies are upgrading our homes minutely and are making them even more convenient and smarter than ever before. But the change doesn’t stop with the variety of household appliances and the self-driving cars’ new design; it reaches out to our clothing and accessories and makes the contemporary materials a real necessity for everyday life.
Take, for example, carbon fiber. The main advantages of carbon fiber materials are their high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high-temperature tolerance, and low thermal expansion. These properties have made carbon fiber very popular in aerospace, civil engineering, military, motorsports, and other competition sports.
As a composite or impregnated with plastic, it’s used in many everyday items, to make reinforced polymers, or woven with filament yarns, all with a very high strength to weight ratio.
Carbon fiber items are lightweight and, at the same time, durable, while carbon fiber textiles have great flexibility. Yes, carbon fiber is a relatively expensive material – but not so expensive that because of the cost you won’t be able to treat yourself with a carbon wallet accessory.
And while the old but gold leather wallets are the classic choice of the gentleman, the contemporary business adventurer (and just a modern man) needs a better, sturdier, and more elegant wallet. Something sweet and versatile. Something lightweight like carbon fiber wallets, for example.
What is the best carbon fiber wallet?
Do you have a wallet model or a brand in mind? Do you search for an RFID-blocking wallet? How often you use every credit card stuffed in your wallet? Do you need a wallet with a money clip or a bill compartment, or a coin compartment? How much capacity do you expect to get? Or is the low price the most important of the features you search for? Out there for sure, you’ll find the right wallet to fit your exact needs.
Take, for example, the minimalist wallet. In everyday life, one mostly uses cards with cashless payments, so a credit card holder with a money clip or a cash strap, Rfid blocking technology, and a sleek look, should be your best choice. The capacity is limited, but here the wallet’s minimal thickness is of primary importance.
If one’s needs a wallet with more versatile functionality and an elegant appearance, then probably a bifold or a trifold will be a better choice. There is a wide range of models in the market, including real leather ones complemented with protective stitching or modern ones with carbon fiber plates and hinges (a slim wallet), for every budget.
All those pocket wallets offer not only cardholder slots but also a coin holder pocket and a separate compartment for money in cash. Almost any model in the bi-fold and tri-fold range, especially if it is a carbon fiber wallet, also uses RFID blocking technology. And while the wallet’s thickness is also of importance here, the main thing to look for is the convenience in reaching for your business cards and into the bill and coin holder.
No matter what your preference is, your carbon fiber wallet is waiting for you, able to hold and carry both cards and cash. No need for a desperate search, for here we have listed some of the most exciting and desired carbon fiber wallets on the net.
There are many models and brands, both more expensive and luxury, bifold and three-fold, simple and sleek with a money clip, and cheaper while still smart, sturdier options.
When you’re finished scrolling through our selections, we have prepared for you some more advice and FAQ answer section about the carbon wallets and how to find the wallet that suit your needs (and for the best bucks, if possible).

What is a carbon fiber wallet?
First: a couple of words on how carbon fiber materials are made.
Carbon fiber manufacturing is, as the name suggests, the process of composing carbon atoms in fibers with 5-10 micrometers in diameter. The carbon atoms are bonded together in crystals and aligned parallel to the long axis of the fiber.
The crystal alignment gives the fiber a high strength-to-volume ratio (in other words, it is strong for its size). But this “raw” carbon fiber is quite brittle and is prone to cracking and splitting. Hence, it needs to be blended with epoxy resin for added flexibility and unbreakability.
Then this composite carbon fiber is ready for industrial use: being mold into finished products or woven into textiles, for example.
Second, a couple of words about carbon fiber weaves.
The texture you see on the carbon fiber is called “weave,” and the most common weave one will see on the carbon fiber textiles (and other composites) is the twill weave.
The carbon fiber cloth is woven along the fiber orientation to create it. Second, by popularity, comes the plain wave. It is more abrasion-resistant, while the twill one’s fibers are longer and make the material stronger.
There are also other patterns used for specific purposes. The “harness satin” weave makes for an exceptionally flexible fabric. It is very well suited to conform to complex curves and is typically seen in reinforced plastics.
Third, carbon fiber materials are rated by their K.
The most common carbon fibers are 1K, 3K, and 12K. In the weave, the carbon fiber filaments form the so-called rovings. The K number relates to the number of individual fibers in a roving. The carbon fiber wallets are mostly made of 3K carbon fiber.
The denser a carbon fiber textile is, the more expensive it becomes. For a small accessory, you don’t need the same sturdiness and durability a car bumper needs, for example, so, that the price may become lower thanks to a lower K carbon fiber composite used.
You need the carbon fiber inside your wallet because of another quality it has because the carbon fiber is a natural RFID blocker.
What is RFID?
Radio-frequency identification uses electromagnetic waves to identify and track tags attached to objects. Those tags consist of small radio-transponders. When triggered by the impulse of a nearby RFID reader device, they transmit digital data. This technology is used widely: for key cards and access cards, access chips, and also in the bank industry.
All contactless payment systems use RFID.
And where there is technology involved, there is a genius to use it for robberies. Thus RFID theft became a thing in recent years, and hackers are more than happy to steal from banks’ customers.
What RFID frequencies your carbon fiber wallet blocks?
In RFID systems, two of the most common frequencies are 125 kHz (used by key and access cards) and 13.56 MHz (used by bank cards).
The carbon fiber blocks all wavelengths due to its electromagnetic conductivity (including your wi-fi, mobile phone service, GPS, etc.), most wallets are made to specifically block the 13.56 MHz frequency and only slightly dampen the frequency used by most house and office access systems.
How much carbon fiber there is in a wallet?
Carbon fiber is expensive and, besides, for RFID protection, one or two plates are more than enough. So usually, the cheaper wallets have only one plate or textile pocket.
All other plates (or textiles) included are made from something cheaper, aluminum, and stainless steel for the minimalist carbon fiber wallets or leather for most bifold and trifold models, for that luxurious final touch.
There are also wallets with complete carbon fiber casings, which provide two plates plus hinges (or carbon fiber shells). Those are more durable, scratch and dent resistant as a rule, but tend to be more expensive.
How do I know my wallet is made from real carbon fiber?
The composite materials known as “real” carbon fiber for industrial use, in reality, are made by impregnating the carbon fibers with resin (in most cases – epoxy resin). So there is a sure but easy method to check the quality of your carbon fiber accessory.
The resin base is burnable; the carbon fiber is no. After burning off, it will leave the non-flammable carbon fiber filaments. If the wallet (or other goods you want to be checked) burn entirely or don’t burn at all, there is no carbon fiber woven in their base material.
